In this project I combined two technics for creating a piece: pitch and slab making. First I created a sphere and cut few 'moon like shapes' from prepeared clay slab. Then I attached these pieces on the sphere:
And this is the final piece before glazing and raku firing:
I really like how you build your coral like surfaces from separate pieces of slab. I have also experimented with creating similar surfaces, but my method was more about carving the same piece of clay and creating those wings from thick layer of wheel thrown piece. I think with your method you are achieving much more pronounced structure and I am really enoying the look of it. Beautiful work.
