For this project I choose a rhyme 'Georgie Porgie', based on a colourfull character of George Villiers. More information about the background of this rhyme find here: http://www.rhymes.org.uk/georgie_porgie.htm The story is interesting and surely worth to read. :-)
Georgie Porgie pudding and pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry,
When the boys came out to play,
Georgie Porgie ran away.
After the research about this rhyme I made couple of paper maquetts.
This is a paper 'potty' with decoration:
First I made the potty and glaze it with a transparent glaze:
Ceramic 'Georgie Porgie potty' decorated with decals:
The diameter of the 'potty' is 21 cm, the height 15 cm and it is pretty heavy!
This is a paper maquett of 'spinning top', popular toy in 18th century:
The ceramic peace decorated with colour underglaze slips and transparent glaze:
The diameter of the spin is 6.5 cm and the height is 9 cm.
The following item is based on 'rocking horse' that belonged to Charles I., the son of King James IV. and I. George Villiers was a protégé of King James, whatever that means... check on some historical facts. :-)
Paper maquette of the rocking horse:
The ceramic piece:
The size of the rocking horse is (WxDxH) 30 x 6 x 25 cm. One of the legs broke during bisque firing. I hoped that the glaze would stick it together, but unfortunately it did not. Some of the underglaze decoration (red lips) got burnt out during the final firing. Also the transparent glaze turned white at some areas, so all over the result was not a big success. I still find the horse quite good.
This a paper maquette of a baby nursing bottle used in 16th - 17th century. I dressed the bottle in corset as a reference to the story of the rhyme. The following picture shows a baby rattle toy with names of the participants of the story. These two pieces have not been made in clay:
